COMMITTEE TO PROMOTE SQUARE DANCING
FOR THE BENEFIT OF ALL CLUBS IN THE UNITED STATES

   ABOUT CPSD

                WHAT

Van Symons founded the Committee to Promote Square Dancing (CPSD), a  501(C)(3)  non-profit, in 1999 to  increase community awareness of the social and health benefits of square dancing.

             WHY

As society has changed over recent years and people are more inclined to stay home and play on their computers, Square Dancing has been on the decline, as have most other traditional fraternal organizations.

The book  Bowling Alone  by Robert Putnam describes this societal "mega-trend" in detail.   (Read It)
or read Michael A. Craft's summary as it applies to square dancing.   (Click Here)

            MISSION

The mission of CPSD is to get the word out that Square Dancing continues to be a wonderful activity that fulfills the needs of its participants by offering light aerobic exercise, mental stimulation and lots of friends and social activities.

To this end CPSD offers low-cost classes that are open to everyone in  the community as well as caller scholarships and a new caller practice support group.

         YOU CAN HELP

The CPSD welcomes any and all proposals from both clubs and callers to promote square dancing.   Also the CPSD may be able to use its members' efforts and its non-profit status to lower costs.  So please consider joining CPSD or forming a CPSD-like organization in your area.
